Quite a lot has happened lately.

Plenty happened before too; I simply never remembered to write it down. With some free time today, I browsed the blogs of people I do not know and found their everyday stories surprisingly interesting.

It has also been a long time since I wrote a simple account of my own life.

One · Dalong was neutered

Dalong being neutered is definitely the event most worth talking about.

I had originally planned to let him father a litter when he turned two.

But once he went into heat, Dalong yowled terribly every day. Each cycle lasted a week, followed by a week's break before it started again. Neighbors complained twice in the period before Chinese New Year. I learned online that, unless he mated, the cycle would keep repeating at that frequency. After weighing the options, I had him neutered.

Dalong became much quieter afterward. When I use the computer, he settles beside my legs and sleeps. His good behavior is almost heartbreaking.

To make up for what I had put him through, I opened our last can of cat food for him.

Two · My wife's exam

My wife took an extremely important exam, and the results came out at the end of February.

She did exceptionally well and is expected to rank among the top five in the entire school. I was not the one taking the exam, of course, but I still basked in the achievement and felt proud.

I remembered how she left for the library before dawn while preparing and studied until it closed. It truly brought to mind the old saying that hard work rewards those who persevere.

I should spend less time slacking off and more time studying too, or I will not be good enough for her.

Three · Renovating the new home

The presale apartment we bought was finally handed over at the end of last year. Last winter was too cold to complete the renovation paperwork, so everything had to wait until after Chinese New Year.

To save money, our current living conditions are genuinely poor. There is no kitchen or heating, and the bathroom drain is frequently blocked.

I have been hoping the renovation will finish soon so that we can move into our new home.

The next few months may be tiring, but the thought of soon having a place that is truly ours still makes me happy. Besides, it has already been more than half a year since I last ate a meal I cooked myself.
